Gonzaga University: Bachelors degree in Psychology and Communication Studies

My Gonzaga Experience!

Over my four years of studying psychology and communication at a Jesuit institution, I have been surrounded by a community that has pushed me to follow my individual dream and craft my own academic journey. There has been continual push for critical thinking, community engagement, I’ve been inspired by the process of healing, growing, learning and studying the overall impact of community. I’ve spent my entire education learning about the possibilities of people and I’m eager to learn more throughout the rest of my career. I have been a part of several clubs and activities on campus and now hold leadership positions in two. I am the president of the communication honors society, Lambda Pi Eta (LPE) and the Vice President of our Jewish Student Union. I have held a role as a representative in the Unity Alliance Culture Clubs (UACC) where we collaborate cross culturally with the students on campus and work to diversify voices and experiences at Gonzaga. I have been touched by the care and compassion of my professors and mentors, they have truly shaped my dreams for the future. In communication studies I have learned how to critique dominant power structures and find productive ways to engage with community and those who share differentiating opinions. I have learned how to identify patterns of behavior and have gotten comfortable with predicting outcomes or suggesting solutions for the circumstances. The collaborative work of the social sciences has reignited my hopes for the future and has introduced me to people, topics, and opportunities that can lead me to the path of healing and change. My experience at Gonzaga has allowed me to explore the more holistic approach to learning and embracing the elements of cura personalis, values that are deeply rooted in Jesuite practice. Respect and care for the whole person has allowed me to explore the realms of communication and psychology in a all encompassing way. The values taught and embedded within the school have lifted aspirations for my capabilities in the future, whether by advocating for marginalized communities, supporting children's development, or promoting mental well-being I feel capable of engaging with a team. It reinforces a holistic approach to understanding people and society, encouraging you to approach challenges with empathy, reflection, and a dedication to justice. I am grateful for the way these majors and institutions has shaped me and I am excited to challenge and continue the path of change that has been an overall theme of my experience.
